What's this community's best kept secret? Wichita is a cool place because...? Or if someone had only four hours to spend here, what should they be sure to do?

Each of us has a story. Together we have a Wichita story.

Interview with Mike Goldston, Wichita resident
posted at 2007-10-26 14:30:52
Wichita is a cool place because … "Of the people, I guess. They are caring, genuine people." Goldston says people in Wichita are generally friendlier than people in other cities.

What is the craziest or most unusual thing you’ve done here in Wichita?
"Bathtub races, I guess."

As a participant or an observer?
"Both."

What goes into engineering a bathtub to make it float?
"There’s a lot of Styrofoam. Some of them are really designed well. A lot of the Cessna people put them together and have got them engineered real well. Others are just farm products and get them going."

What do you think is Wichita’s best-kept secret?
"Recently we’ve gotten into a lot of ballroom dancing. It seems to be growing more and more all of the time."

Name something that you were surprised to find out you could do in Wichita?
"I can’t think of anything off hand."

If you knew someone was only going to be in Wichita for four hours, what is the one thing they have to see?
"I think they should see Exploration Place, even though I’ve never been there. I hear it’s great. A guy who works for me says, ‘Man, you’ve got to see this,’ that’s why it rings in my brain that I need to go and see it."

Anything else you’d like to add?
"If you’re into architecture, the architecture in Wichita is really pretty unique. I was with a guy one time and he was talking about the different facets of it. If that’s your interest, there are so many different styles of architecture just right out on Douglas. Most people don’t know about it or think about it. I didn’t think about it until it was pointed out to me."
