Show us your WICHITA
And we're not talking just the city limits. We're talking Newton, Wellington, El Dorado and everywhere in between. Show us what you do. What you love to do. And what you can do a whole lot more of because you live here.

What's this community's best kept secret? Wichita is a cool place because...? Or if someone had only four hours to spend here, what should they be sure to do?

Each of us has a story. Together we have a Wichita story.

Friendship is a thankful Magic Mirror
By Marcia B. Harrington

A looking glass image tells a story of giving love.

It’s not just Thanksgiving that causes us to be grateful. It’s the daily efforts made by many caring people at Magic Mirrors Salon, on Webb Road that makes me smile.

For many years, a standing appointment at Magic Mirrors meant warm hello’s, hot chocolate and warm hugs from Donna LaMorte, Betty Bartlett, Frances Garcia and other friendly staff and customers. My sister, Sharron, just knew they meant it when they told her she looked pretty. They knew she deserved the happy feeling that comes with looking good after a professional manicure, pedicure and hair styling. That “oh don’t you look great” attitude makes Magic Mirrors a magical experience.

Before my beloved sister, Sharron, passed away last January, her friend and manicurist, Donna, brought her a silver necklace and placed it around my sister’s neck in the hospital. The necklace had a circle pendant that read “Memories”, a tangible reminder of the effect Sharron had on her life. . Sharron didn’t just love all kinds of jewelry, she wore her multiple bracelets as a badge of honor because each piece was a gift from a friend or close family member.

As we approach the Holiday Season, I’m reminded it’s not all the high tech toys, gift cards and apparel that mean the most, it’s about celebrating one another and the memory of a simple gesture that makes one feel rich and loved.
