Interview with Kimberly Kirk, Wichita resident

Wichita is a cool place because … “because of events like this (WAM Final Friday). I enjoy this type of thing. … I mentioned it at work today that I was going to this and everybody said, ’What?’ ”

What is the most unusual thing you’ve done in Wichita?
“I can’t really think of anything crazy. At least not anything I can say. It’s really not a crazy kind of town.”

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
“It’s a bad thing.”

What could we do to make it a little crazier town?
“I don’t think they advertise enough about stuff. You hear about events that happened two days ago and I think, ‘Oh, I never even knew that was happening.’ So they could advertise things.”

What were surprised to learn that you could do in Wichita?
“When I first heard about this (Final Friday) I didn’t realize we offered that.”
“There’s lots of things going on. There’s Race for the Cure. There are always things happening. And people say there’s nothing to do. There are events every weekend. It’s just whether or not they want to get out and do it.”

If you knew someone was coming to Wichita and could only stay four hours, what one thing would you tell them to see?
“Exploration Place or the Sedgwick County Zoo, something like that. It may not be my thing, but they are places that are a little different.”
“Most of my family is from New York. And when they come here, you know what they want to do? They always want to go to Cowtown. They want to go to Botanica. And we think, ‘What?’ I wouldn’t want to go to Cowtown, why would they want to do that, is my thought. And they always want to do that. You just assume that people aren‘t going to be interested in that kind of they, but they are.”
