My wife and I are both in our 70s and retired. We are natives of Kansas, having been born and raised in Kansas. I am from a small farm community in Smith County near the town of Lebanon. I went to college at Emporia State University from 1951-1955 and met my wife there who was born and raised in Emporia. After college, I entered the U. S. Marine Corps and served for 31 years before retiring in 1986. After a second career in a private security company, spanning 14 years, we were approaching our 50th wedding anniversary while living near Washington, DC and commuting back and forth to Orange County, CA for a consulting contract. Our son has lived in Wichita since he graduated from Emporia State in 1979. While visiting him here in 2003 we found a house in Reflection Ridge that we fell in love with. We bought the home we now live in and sold our larger home in Virginia and our Condo in California. We moved here in 2004 right after our 50th wedding anniversary and have never regretted a moment. It was in fact, coming home to live in Kansas again, after a 50 year hiatus. We have lived all over the United States and there are many nice places in this great country. But, we do not miss the traffic and congestion found in Washington, DC and the Los Angeles, CA area. The people in Wichita are the best in the world. They are trustworthy and honest. Wichita offers just as many cultural events as other well known areas. We enjoy going to the Music Theater Wichita shows at Century II. Old Town and the numerous fine restaurants there as well as those in East Wichita and West Wichita make fine dining a pleasure. The cost of housing makes Wichita an attractive place to live. Being retired military, McConnell AFB, is an attraction to us. McConnell is a great asset to the Wichita community and fits very well with the theme of Air Capital of the world. Our Mid-Continent airport is convenient and easy to get into and out of. We are only an hour and a half from Emporia by car where we have ties to Emporia State. In summary, we love Wichita. It is a great place to live.
